Yellow butter cake

Ingredients:

  • Butter – 1lb 8oz (680g)
  • Sugar – 1lb 10 oz (740g)
  • Salt – 1 & 1/4 teaspoon
  • Eggs – 15oz (425g)
  • Cake flour – 1lb 14oz (850g)
  • Baking powder – 1.25oz (35g)
  • Milk – 1lb 14oz (850g)
  • Vanilla – 0.5oz (14g)

How to cook:

  1. Mix flour and baking powder, set aside.
  2. Cream butter, sugar, salt till no grittiness. Add eggs and vanilla till combined. (Basic cream method)
  3. Bake 375° (165°C, Gas Mark 3) for 25 minutes for 8 in a round (weight out 14-18oz (400-500g) per round

Chocolate butter cake

Ingredients:

  • Butter – 9oz (255g)
  • Sugar – 15oz (425)
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Unsweetened chocolate, melted – 6oz (170g)
  • Eggs – 8 Oz (225)
  • Cake flour – 12ozg
  • Baking powder – 5oz (140g)
  • Milk – 8oz (140g)
  • Coffee – 6oz (170g)
  • Vanilla – 1 & 1/2 teaspoon

How to cook:

  1. Mix flour and baking powder and set aside.
  2. Cream butter, sugar and salt till no grittiness. Add Melted chocolate, eggs and vanilla till combined. (Basic cream method) alternate flour and milk, end with flour.
  3. Bake 375° (165°C, Gas Mark 3) for 25 minutes for 8 in a round.
